Right now, the only way is to link to a whole block of text from another note. No option to link to just a sentence.
This is not good, when you want to use the “!” sign before, to make a citation, because almost all the time the blocks are too big, when you just want to reference a single thing from that block.
Also, the only way to link to a block of text from a different note, is to write the “[[” and then start typing the name and then using ^ to search for blocks of text.
There are two drawbacks to this:
-
It takes time to search with those commands.
Sure they are ok, but if you are already at the desired block of text that you want to reference over in your main note, you still need to go back to that main note and start typing there “[[” and then the name of this note, and then again “^”, to then search for the specific block you already were at before, to now embed it here. This takes time, when you could have already just have a link to paste, not having to search for it again through the commands. -
You can’t reference a specific sentence, or just a block of words. You can only select a whole paragraph of text.
Sometimes when the blocks are too big, you are stuck with the whole block being referenced over, when in fact you wanted just one specific area from it.
I use this for citations, using the “!” at the beginning.
Proposed solution
It would be great to be able to select with your mouse only the desired sentence, or a few selected sentences together (or just a few words (or just one word)), then right click on that selected text, to give you an option to get a link for it, and then you could go back to your original note and just reference it there directly via the link you already have and make a citation.
Current workaround (optional)
I don’t know of a current workaround, other than copying and pasting that text over.
