Renaming note breaks blank aliases

When I rename [[This File Name|with an alias like this]], the alias is retained when I rename [[This File Name]] to [[THAT File Name]] like this [[THAT File Name|with an alias like this]].

However, blank aliases…

When I rename [[This File Name|]] (i.e.no characters in the alias), the alias is NOT retained when I rename [[This File Name]] to [[THAT File Name]].

[[This File Name|]] will become [[THAT File Name]] Note the loss of |

I know that blank aliases sound silly, but they are currently providing a workaround for me.

I think if the user adds a | to a [[link]] it ought to be retained.

I very much doubt this is considered a bug, but I was looking myself for a way to retain the text of existing links when renaming the note and settled on Link with Alias plugin. It’s very simple and works like a charm. Instead of you blank alias, it fills it, so [[file name|file name]] and adds the option of automatically adding an alias to the frontmatter.

Sorry. I don’t consider this a bug. Moved to the help section.

Apologies. Thanks for @Naranya and @WhiteNoise for your help.

I just want to make sure I’ve made my point clear as I think @Naranya misunderstood what I meant.

I understood, but it seems I was incorrect in deducing the point of a blank alias. I assumed the point is to retain the text of the link as it is after renaming the note it links to. Without an alias, it updates to a new note title automatically. If it’s something else, there might be another way to achieve it.
