Try /^.+\.jp(e)g$/ (possibly more specific than it needs to be, but should avoid various edge cases).
With “assets”, are you trying to exclude anything in a folder named “assets”?

It is possible those autopopulated/suggestions URLs are not effected with ignore list at all?
The setting does affect link suggestions.
But it doesn’t completely hide the files, it just pushes them down the list. If you type a close enough match, it will eventually be visible. The example in your screenshot, .jpg, seems likely to do this. If that’s the test you’re using, try typing something else, like the start of a note name that might also match some image files.
