Problem with rendering citations when using the Pandoc plugin to export to .docx

I have tried to adjust settings in Zotero and in the Citations & Pandoc community plugins.

What I’m trying to do

The problem I am experiencing is getting the Pandoc plugin to convert citations from the Zotero reference key, which often looks like this [@Smith_theories_2020], to a more academically recognized citation, such as (Smith 2020). Any help or suggestions on how to resolve this will be welcome. This applies to when I am converting a note from Obsidian’s .md format to .docx using the Pandoc plugin.

I have the same problem even with LaTeX export. It’d be good if it was automatically converted to something like \cite{xyz_key}
