I discovered quite by chance that you can combine the presentation mode of the Media Slider plugin very nicely with the Slides Core Plugin.
If you display a file in Media Slider and then start its internal presentation, you get a beautiful full-screen image with more interactive options than the slides core plugin.
You may need to adjust the width and height settings slightly to get everything to fill the screen nicely. For me, it works fine with: width: 110% height: 700px
