Community Directory: file-bundles
An HTML page and the assets it loads, a note and its images, a scanned invoice and the note describing it. To you each of these is one thing; to Obsidian it is several files. Move the main file and the rest stay behind. Delete it and they are orphaned.
This plugin lets a file declare which files and folders belong with it, and then treats them as one bundle: whatever happens to the main file happens to the whole bundle.
- Declared, not guessed. Other plugins in this space recognize a bundle by naming convention (a note and a same-named folder, a sidecar named after the file). Here you list the dependents in the main file’s frontmatter, so names don’t matter.
- Not only notes. An HTML file, PDF or image can be the main file. They get a small sidecar note that declares the bundle for them.
- Locked by default. Dependents are hidden in the File Explorer, and moving, renaming or deleting the main file carries them along. Unlock it and they are independent files again. Hiding is display only, so links to them keep working.
- A file that two bundles both declare is never deleted along with one of them.
