Plugin download counts differ between the in-app browser and obsidian.md/plugins

That I’m trying to do

Questions:

  1. Does the new Community site use a different data source or update schedule than community-plugin-stats.json? Will the in-app number eventually match the website, or can they stay different?
  2. How often is community-plugin-stats.json regenerated? Does it also run on weekends?

Hi,

I noticed that a plugin’s download count can differ between the two places where it is shown:

  • The in-app Community plugins browser
  • The new Community site (obsidian.md/plugins)

For a recently released plugin, the website showed a noticeably higher number than the in-app browser. Looking at community-plugin-stats.json in obsidianmd/obsidian-releases, the entry only contained per-version counts up to an older release and had an “updated” timestamp from a couple of days earlier, so newer versions’ downloads were not yet included.

The community site count is an approximation of total users, by counting downloads of the 3 most recent releases. This is not persisted in the obsidian-releases repo on GitHub. I don’t know how often it is updated.

The app count counts downloads for all releases. I believe it is updated once a week.

I don’t know if they will be updated to match each other.
