If you turn off Obsidian’s automatic updates, you also turn off its checking, so nothing tells you a new version is out. And the installer version is never checked at all, even though it carries the Electron that some Obsidian features depend on.

This plugin watches all three and never installs anything:

  • App: the version automatic updates would replace.
  • Insider build (Catalyst): only watched when your insider setting is on.
  • Installer: the one automatic updates never touch. You get a warning when its Electron is below what Obsidian itself checks for.

What you get:

  • A status bar item showing what’s behind, or “up to date”. Click it for a panel with installed vs published versions and a changelog link for each.
  • One notice per new version, ever. It won’t nag about the same version after a restart.
  • Both update routes, a new installer or the in-app update, with the download link for your OS and architecture.
  • A Check for updates now command. Checks run hourly by default, and a failed check keeps the last answer instead of claiming you’re up to date.

Works on desktop and Android.
