Thank you White Noise. I have edited my post as below to explain what happened.
The problem I found is that an outline folds in edit, but not in preview. This may be because I do not know how to fold it in preview. There also appears to be a folding bug in edit. I have tried to explaini it below, but it may be my misunderstanding of how folding should work.
I am not able to record a video of what I did at the moment but to clarify I entered:
‘# A’ (in line 1)
‘# B’ (in line 2)
‘## C’ (in line 3)
‘c’ (in line 4)
‘### D’ (in line 5)
‘d’ (in line 6)
EDIT (unfolded)
This shows what I typed into a blank edit screen

This is what appears in the preview. There was no way of folding that I could see (this was not as expected)
