Outline: Can't drag headings in v1.11.5 on tablet

Steps to reproduce

Put the following in a note:

## Notes

## Reference

## Jots

## Log

Basic:

  • On a tablet, open the Outline and try to drag Jots above Reference.

Extra:

  • Try to drag Reference below Jots.
  • Try with the sidebar pinned or unpinned.
  • Notice that when you drag a heading, the line showing where it will go varies in with. Staying between the same 2 headings, move it up and down a little to see it change. I think this has something to do with the heading hierachy and seemed buggy before this. Anyway, try dropping the heading at each width of the line.
  • (Don’t bother trying to drag anything to the top or bottom place; that was buggy before.)

Did you follow the troubleshooting guide? [Y/N]

Y

Expected result

The heading goes where it’s dragged.

Actual result

The floating indicator hangs for a bit and then goes away, leaving the Outline unchanged.

Additional information

I believe this bug is new in v1.11.5, or at least to a recent version.

Dragging headings works as expected on my iPhone (also on v1.11.5) and Mac (v1.11.4).

Related, pre-existing bug reports:

(My attempt to reproduce this one revealed further weirdness with heading drag and drop that I hadn’t noticed before.)

It was a gremlin. Restarting the iPad (which I meant to do before but forgot) fixed it. :expressionless_face:

I would like to know what this indicates. I’ve never understood it but assume it means something.

When I tried to repro that other bug I linked, I concluded

By that I think I meant that if the heading you dropped under had parents, the one you’re dragging could end up under any of those levels and the line width tells you which one. But the heading drag behavior was in general weirder than I’d realized before and I came away feeling confused, so that might not actually be how it works or what it’s for.

Will play around in a big note with lots of different heading levels to suss out what’s happening with that divider. :flexed_biceps:
