Opening vault from NAS stopped working with 1.13.4 network drive

Hello Forum,

Thank you very much for reading this ticket and your support.

I have my vault located on a Synology NAS that is connected as network drive “S:\Notes” to Windows 11.
With former version 1.12.7 everything is working fine.
After upgrade to version 1.13.4 this vault cannot be opened.
When clicking on it a window opens and then closes instantly without any error message or entry in obsidian.log

Once you’ve done the above, delete everything above this line.

Steps to reproduce

  • Install version 1.13.4
  • Try to open existing vault on network drive (“S:\Notes”)
    • Window appears and closes instantly without error message
  • Try to create a new vault on network path
    • Same behavior as with an existing vault
  • Create a new vault on C:\
    • Works as intended
  • Uninstall version 1.13.4
  • Install version 1.12.7
  • Vaults on network path can be used again as intended

Did you follow the troubleshooting guide? [Y/N]

Yes, I tried the following

  1. Using default config and theme
  2. Uninstalling all custom plugins, just using default plugins
  3. Creating a new vault on the network drive

Expected result

  • Vaults on network drive can be opened as in former version 1.12.7

Actual result

  • Existing and new created vaults on a network drive open and close without error message or entry in “obsidian.log” (“C:\Users\[USER]\AppData\Roaming\obsidian\obsidian.log”)

Environment

  • Cannot reach that far, since vault is not opened long enough

The team are aware and the fix will be in the next version.

Do you mean the next big version or will there be a bug fix in between?
Boils down to the question should I wait for the fix or use the older version?

A team member can correct me if I’m wrong, but my understanding is that it will be fixed in 1.13.5. ETA unknown, but I reckon shortly. :soon_arrow:

This is still a problem for me i 1.13.6

Have tried uninstalling 1.13.4 completely and reinstalling, still goes back to the Open Vault menu (Windows 11)

Download and reinstall obsidian. Post a screen recording of this happening. Thanks.

30 Mb is too large.
Can’t slice it.
I’ll describe it to you instead.

  1. I uninstall Obsidian
  2. I remove all folders under AppData/Local and Roaming
  3. I reinstall 1.13.6
  4. Same problem occurs.
  5. I’ll start going through the vault now and see if there’s anything I can fix

Upload it somewhere and post here or dm me the link?

Also does it happen with any NAS vault or just that vault?

Tried creating a new blank one, on a different share but still on the same NAS, which worked, so there’s something with that vault. I’ll fix link.

I might have found the issue:

Having the vault in the root of a shared drive, for instance O:\.obsidian makes it crash.
Creating a vault in O:\Obsidian\.obsidian works

that case will be fixed in v1.13.7. ETA unknown

Thanks :vulcan_salute:
