Open Obsidian like the Quake terminal (on macOS)

I wanted to be able to quickly open and close my notes, for example to quickly add something to my daily notes. This means running Obsidian in the background the entire time, but I hated the idea of seeing Obsidian in my dock and alt+tab the entire time (I use alt+tab a lot as I try to reduce my mouse usage).
The Quake terminal was easy to show and hide with a simple hotkey, and I wanted to emulate that behaviour with Obsidian.

I think I’ve found a way to do this on macOS, though not for the feint of heart, and thought I’d share it here: Pascal de Vink - Quake style opener for Obsidian

I’m curious to hear what others think of this solution, or maybe there are other solutions out there that I haven’t seen yet?
