Only one vault and does not show up - as if started a new vault

Hi! I have only one vault with all my notes, and all of a sudden, it disappeared. So when Inow click and open my obsidian on desktop it shows an empty (new?) vault… I have the folder with the backups, so I’m not panicking, because my notes are there, but I don’t knwo how to open my vault…
Thank you in advance

Is it a cloud sync tool like iCloud or OneNote? If so there might be a setting you need to set to make the files always downloaded.

Or is the backup folder a completely separate folder, and the original is still gone?

What OS?

Thank you so much for this quick reply!
I have the Obsidian backups on a folder in the laptop (and I have all my laptop folder “my documents” synchrinized with google drive to allow for cloud backups, whcih means that by extension, the locla folder Obsidian backups is also in the google drive, so I have a local backup and a cloud back of all docs).
So it’s like I’ve started a new vault everytime I open the Obsidian desktop app…
The OS is Windows 11 Home 23H2 64-bit operating system - is this the info you needed?
Again, thank you so much for your reply and for your help!!!

I’m not so concerned about the backups. I’m asking about your vault. Where was the vault that disappeared stored?

Was it also in Google Drive? If so, was your vault folder set to “Available Offline”?

In the help docs, it mentions:

Best Practices:

  • Set vault files to Available Offline in Google Drive to avoid syncing issues due to offloading.

Secondly, if you have “My Documents” synced with Google Drive, I would double check and triple check that you don’t have a folder that is synced by default with OneDrive. If you are mixing OneDrive and Google Drive, that could potentially explain some sync loss.

I think Google Drive is available offline by default. But I am pretty certain OneDrive likes to offload files.

THNAK YOU!!! You were right: it was a problem of “double synch” between onedrive and googledrive! so stupid of me! I’ve found the right folder and I could open it very very easily! Sorry I’m such a newbie, and thank you so so so much for all the help!!! Thank you!

Ok cool! Be very careful with all your other files too, not just the Obsidian vault.
