I recently bought a new computer and re downloaded Obsidian in order to work on a D&D campaign I’ve been working on for friends (I’m saying this so you don’t think I am crazy upon seeing the file names). I tried to open the vault using the folder I have saved, but I keep getting a “failed to open” message. Did I save the file wrong?
I don’t know if this is your issue or not, but Obsidian needs the entire vault folder downloaded locally to work properly.
Sometimes OneDrive, Google Drive, etc., have “stub” files that aren’t actually downloaded to your device and are only downloaded when you click on them in Windows File Explorer or the Finder.
To get around this, make sure that entire vault folder is set to “Make available offline” (I think that’s OneDrive’s wording for keeping a local copy of everything).
Oh no, so, theoretically, if the previous device the file was located on is gone… I’ve most likely lost all of the things I have type up correct? There’s no way for me to re download the file correctly. I thought I got lucky, but seems like I may have lost everything
