I have been using obsidian for a month in Linux Mint. Out of the blue today, it simply wouldn’t launch at all. Like I hadn’t even clicked on it. I have no add-ons downloaded for the program–it’s a vanilla install.
Things I have tried
I looked at some articles and based on their advice: uninstalled and reinstalled through flatpak, rolled back to 138 kernel (because 139 has been buggy in other ways). I have not renamed the vault–however, I doubt that is relevant as it’s not that the vault won’t open, it’s that the program itself won’t boot even after reinstall. Comfortable in terminal if someone needs a read out to assess.
I’m also using Flatpak. Did you recently update your Obsidian flatpak to 1.13.7 in the Software Manager? I was using my Obsidian like normal right before I updated it. After that, can’t open it.
I got an error in my terminal trying to do flatpak run md.obsidian.Obsidian and also tried uninstall/reinstall to no avail. When you tried that command in terminal, did you get this?
~$ flatpak run md.obsidian.Obsidian
bwrap: Can't bind mount /oldroot/run/user/1000/app/com.discordapp.Discord on /newroot/run/user/flatpak/app/com.discordapp.Discord: Unable to mount source on destination: No such file or directory
My last thought is using Timeshift to roll back my PC before the Obsidian flatpak update seeing if that fixes it. I haven’t tried yet though.
That’s so odd because I just tried to terminal run it and got the same message–why is it referencing out to discord? I tried uninstalling discord altogether and that did nothing.
Alright, it’s fixed. It was an unrelated regression with “bubblewrap” which i realize is the “bwrap” in the weird error. If you check your updates, there should be one for “bubblewrap” which fixes Obsidian. It can run again as soon as you update.
