Obsidian Sync: Unable to sync a note I encrypted

Hi all,

I am a new user to Obsidian, having decided to dump using Microsoft Office applications. After experimenting with various SYNC options available on Obsidian, I decided to go for the official supported SYNC option (Paid option).

Currently using this on my main device which is the Samsung Tab S10 Ultra (Android), and my iPhone 16 on latest IOS

What I’m trying to do

ENCRYPT one of my notes & have it synchronised across my devices using SYNC

Things I have tried

Completed the process to ENCRYPT the selected note on my Android Tablet, but when the system sync’s, the note is not shown on the iPhone.
If I then decrypt on the tablet, and then encrypt the same file on the iPhone, it doesn’t shown on the tablet

Files I encrypted BEFORE subscribing to Sync DO show on each device and with the designated “MDENC" to the right of the note name.

Its a bit odd that whichever device I encrypt the file on, it will show on that device, but not on the device(s) that are synchronising.

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Under Settings > Core plugins > Sync > Selective sync (scroll down a bit) there’s an option: Sync all other types.

This setting will need to be enabled on all devices to sync those files back and forth. I’d check what that’s set for on your devices and report back.

Wow thanks for the super quick response. I will go check all devices now. I had a feeling it was a case of “User Error" :joy:

Thanks You

SORTED :+1: It was exactly as you said. Files now appearing on my devices.

Thanks again

No worries!

One of the great things about Obsidian Sync is granular control over what’s sent up the the remote vault and other devices, but a drawback is that those settings need to be adjusted depending on what you’d like. I think that’s probably the issue, but yeah, have a look.

Renamed thread for future searchers (was “Obsidian Sync (Official) Issue”).
