I now have Obsidian Sync, and it appears to be working correctly. Is there now a way that a colleague could be connected to that Sync Vault so that we can collaborate?

Not at the moment. We will at some point implement a vault-level sharing feature where you will have to share the pwd of the vault with your friend.

Finer (file-level) sharing is theoretically possible if you let us manage the encryption keys but I am not sure we will go there (not in the short term)
