Obsidian Sync: Images missing

Hi There,

I’m using Obsidian Sync to sync my Vault but am missing images when viewing older pages.

Vault location

Looking at File > Vault, I can see the Vault isn’t saved in Dropbox or iCloud Drive, but in the top-level of my users folder - I don’t have any other cloud services…

~/Vaults/Obsidian/vault-name

Attachments location

It’s been a while since I setup the vault and sync but I can see that I have a /Assets folder setup and in preferences, “Attachments folder path” is set to: vault-name/Assets

Missing images in notes

When I open a note with missing images, I see this…

Missing images location

If I search for the missing image in the Finder, I see it located in the /Assets folder within the vault at…

~/Vaults/vault-name/Assets/mc6pro-toggle-mode-crunch 2.jpg

Questions

Does anyone know why this happens and how to fix?

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers, Ben

  • Obsidian Version 1.9.12
  • MacOS 15.6.1

Which Obsidian Sync subscription do you have?

Are the images larger than 5MB?

these two are different. There’s no Obsidian in the second.

Thanks for that. Had chatGPT troubleshoot and discovered that “Optimise Mac Storage” was on and that “Desktop & Document Folders” must of been on in iCloud settings at some point.

I also searched for the image name and located the second /Assets folder that was part of iCloud drive and have copied all the images into: ~/Vaults/vault-name/Assets

Seems to be fixed.

Cheers, Ben
