Obsidian randomly resetting stuff back to default

when i started obsidian today, it randomly removed a few settings and reset some things to default. it changed the sidebar sizes back to default, and removed all my pinned tabs as well as the one i had currently open that wasn’t pinned. this hasn’t ever happened before i updated to the new version.
it also closed fantasy statblocks and solo RPG toolkit. i was able to re-open these, and i think them having been closed is not because of the plugins themselves, but because of the same error that apparently removed my saved settings.
aside from this, themes and plugins seem unaffected and my actual documents and folders aren’t changed either.

I’m sorry to hear about what happened, but this isn’t a bug report. You need to follow and include the bug report template when submitting bug reports. Thanks.

Where is your vault on disk? Is it in a sync service folder/location? OneDrive? iCloud? It sounds like there was a settings file conflict, which can happen with some sync services, and a new settings file was created.

ok, if it’s not a bug report, please move it to where it belongs.

my vault is on an external HD and there’s absolutely no sync going on, i only back up manually.

Rather, it might be better if you follow the template and provide the info it asks for. It helps people spot the problems. Otherwise we can only guess.

The question about syncing is because it’s possible for sync tools to cause file conflicts in your settings files, so Obsidian loads old files and you end up with duplicates. You could check your settings files in YourVault/.obsidian to see if you spot any duplicate files. Maybe the external drive caused those types of issues.

The other info the template provides is what version and installer version you have. And OS. etc
