Obsidian properties and NotePlan

I had high hopes for using Obsidian and a few of its community plugins to plug some feature gaps in NotePlan, but apparently the way NotePlan places a note’s filename on the first line of the text conflicts with Obsidian frontmatter and makes it impossible to use Obsidian properties. After briefly googling and searching this forum, I find a couple of references to the issue from a few years ago but nothing more recent. I don’t suppose anyone has found a solution?

What I’m trying to do

Using my NotePlan notes folder as an Obsidian vault, work with Obsidian and plugin features that depend on Obsidian properties

Things I have tried

NotePlan uses the filename as the note title, which it places on the first line of the file as a level one header (markdown #). Deleting the title or placing frontmatter before it breaks NotePlan. I’ve searched this forum and googled the wider web but have not found a solution.

not a noteplan user and thus not conversant with its strengths (or how with any Obsidian plugin one could make using it possibly redundant)

also never used inline dataview properties, such as:
topic:: dummy

…but you can put these properties inline (meaning any line below your Noteplan title) and still be able to use dataview to query for these properties as if you had Obsidian properties…
…but as far as i know Obsidian only accepts its own properties (to go in its own metadatacache) in YAML – still, i’d say you wouldn’t lose a whole lot… only later functionality of obsidian…

maybe someone knows these thing better…
