Obsidian or another?

Hi There,

Should I use Obsidian for $5 per month or OneNote (free)? Why should I pay for it when OneNote does more like scanning, and does Obsidian only save your synced notes for 30 days (1 month)?

Things I have tried

the “Things I have tried” on the end here is chef’s kiss

can you scan docs into it and does your sync only last a month?

I guess you’re talking about the sync plugin. OneNote doesn’t sync by itself. It’s using OneDrive. Obsidian plugin, sync inside Obsidian. As you probably know, Microsoft owns the space where your files are saved. In Obsidian, your local storage is synced across the web (or something like that). This is why we can talk about end-to-end encryption in Obsidian and in Microsoft is Microsoft’s standard encryption.

The main reasons why I use Obsidian:

Feature OneNote Obsidian
Text Formatting Rich text, images, ink, tables, etc. Markdown (with preview mode)
Templates Basic, no automation Templater plugin, full automation
Backlinks/Graph :x: Not available :white_check_mark: Core features: backlinks, graph view
Plugins :x: Not supported :white_check_mark: 1000+ community plugins
Custom Styling Limited Full control via CSS

More will not say, as I’m not paid enough by the Obsidian team to promote it too much :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Choose one that will help you achieve things you’re good at!

Cheers, Marko

Yes , thanks you, all that did cross my mind. I don’t use microsoft products except I have a OS install where I can’t use Linux. I signed up for the Obsidian month-month plan, gonna check it out. thank you.

I recommend OneNote, if it does what you need at a price that you like.
