Obsidian for macOS using iCloudDrive sync stuck at "Loading Plugins"

What I’m trying to do

I’m simply trying to start the Obsidian app on my MacBook Air M2. It gets stuck at “loading plugins.” The app was working perfectly fine before, I only have a couple of community plugins installed since ever. The only change is that I had to log out of iCloud because of a problem with the AppleTV app. I’m using iCloud Drive for Obsidian sink, which has been working perfectly from the beginning. I guess something happened when I had to log out and log in again.

Things I have tried

I followed the advice I found online, to right-click on the vault folder on Finder and select “Keep Downloaded. After that, I was able to open Obsidian, but every time it starts, I get “Loading plugins,” “Loading cache” messages for a few seconds. I’m not sure that’s normal anymore. Can someone please confirm?

  1. Make sure your iCloud settings are set to always have your files downloaded on the device. Turn off “optimize files” in settings. If your files are in the cloud, that might explain the loading problem.
  2. You said “for Obsidian sink”. Can you please confirm that you meant to sync in general? If you also pay and use “Obsidian Sync”, you should not mix both syncing tools.

I always have “Optimize mac storage” off, but I guess when I logged out of iCloud and logged in again, it turned on by default. That must have caused the original problem.

I meant “sync” in general, I’m not paying for “Obsidian sync” that’s why I use iCloud.

So the temporary “loading plugins” page when starting Obsidian is normal, right?
