Obsidian duplicates notes with emojis in the note name

Hi there,

Windows 10

If I create a new note and it has an emoji in the name of the note (file), Obsidian automatically creates a duplicate note where the emoji is replaced with .

And it just pisses me off…

P. S. Works every single time. No community plugins installed.

Is your vault stored in a cloud syncing tool? For example, I know Dropbox doesn’t support a certain subset of emojis in filenames.

It depends on your setup, and I might be wrong, but I don’t think this is Obsidian duplicating the files.

Can you run the Obsidian command “Show Debug Info” and paste that info here?

Yes, I do store the folder in a cloud syncing tool.

I’ll move it to a regular folder and test it out.

You also have an extremely old installer version. Certain parts of Obsidian can’t auto-update. You should download and reinstall from the website. (It might not be related to this particular problem, but you’re even missing out on some security patches.)

Yep, it’s a sync app issue (Yandex Disk). Moved the vault to a regular folder (which is not synced), and the issue is gone.

Resolved!

Thank you!
