Obsidian closing tabs when files updated by Dropbox

Hello,

I have a problem. I use Obsidian on one computer, with my vault inside my Dropbox. Claude Code is running on another computer, editing md files in my vault. When Claude Code is editing a file that’s open in Obsdiain, the tab for that file suddenly disappears, and I have to wait a little and then reopen it to see the changes. It’s quite annoying.

I think that what happens is that the way Dropbox does the update is by deleting the file first and then creating a new one with the updated content, and this causes Obsidian to close the tab. I’m not sure.

Is there any solution to this? Any way to e.g. tell Obsidian to not immediately close the tab for a deleted file?

Thanks for your help,

Ram Rachum.

Can anyone help with this please?

As a test, does the same behavior happen in a vault that’s not stored in Dropbox?

On a network share (Windows host, Linux guest) the problem doesn’t happen.

I haven’t synced Scrivener on Dropbox in many years, but I seem to remember their advice critically advised that you must close all instances on other computers before working.

If you need to have the vault open in two places at once, I think Dropbox is just going to give you trouble.

You might want to read the threads where people talk about real-time collaboration, because that is basically what you are doing.

I see. Thanks for your help.
