If it’s an idea related to the current note, go ahead and put in the link where you’re at and then hit control-alt-enter, which will open whatever link is under the cursor in a new pane. Or you could just hit alt-enter on the link and then edit it in the current pane before hitting alt-control-left-arrow and returning to the note that you were started in.
That “go back to the last note I was editing” keystroke is really, really helpful if you find yourself frequently taking diversions.
