I’m the newbie of using Obsidian, and have been great for the most part. I only use the basic features and learning organize folders (within the Vault) by a topic.
So far, I’m really enjoyed it!
Recently, I randomly experience (several times, different times apart that I can’t repeat to identify the root cause) the note certainly disappear either WHILE editing, or I closed in the morning and reopen in the evening (it’s gone).
Although it’s a bit frustrated to lose my notes of several working progress activities, but partially I also recognize I MAYBE not know what I may setup incorrectly? (but this is unlikely, since I don’t have special settings)
I do not have my Vault sync any Cloud or drives yet. Just because I have not yet adventure HOW-TO setup correctly. So, I can rule out this concern.
Things I have tried
I checked in
– the Vault’s .trash folder => nothing
– Recovery File => no snapshots (I thought it auto snapshot, by the default settings, but there’s nothing there)
– My computer system trash => nothing.
Where else can I check to retrieve these important notes?
What else can I do to prevent this happen (randomly) in the future? Or, is it just a bug?
Any insights or help are greatly appreciated for this learning journey!
For the File Recovery core plugin, you need to click in the text field and start typing a note name for any snapshots to show up. Maybe you did, but just to double check.
Including the debug info asked for above, where is the location, the path, of your vault on disk? I know you said you aren’t using any sync, but some sync services can watch folders outside of their “main” sync folder.

tbh, i would not know what to type in the search. (maybe a little bit misleading of the search bar there, where there’s nothing displayed before search)

RECOMMENDATIONS:
Community plugins: for bugs, please first try updating all your plugins to latest. If still not fixed, please try to make the issue happen in the Sandbox Vault or disable community plugins.
What maybe the reason the note did NOT appeared within the original Vault (anywhere), and now found out it’s in the File Recovery (Thanks to @ariehen !)??
