Newbie with an organization question

Hi everyone, I’m sure this isn’t the first time sidings asked this, but looking in the forum archives didn’t turn anything up, so…

I’m new to Obsidian, and trying to figure out if it’s possible to place notes in sequence. I don’t always want to do that, but for outlining presentations it’s kind of crucial. The radiating spokes is fun to look at, and gives me a good idea of where the important nodal points are. But sometimes I want to be able to say “this idea cones after that one,” and that organization doesn’t seem native to the system…
Thanks!

One way I solve this in my own system is by using numeric prefixes to the titles. This also helps keep them in order in the file structure view.

So for example, if I have a writing project that I’ve split to multiple files, I name them 001 - First chapter, 002 - Second chapter, 002.1 - Subchapter of 002 etc.

This way they nicely sort in a way that I can follow the sequence from start to finish.

There’s an Obsidian plug-in that can help facilitate juhis’s idea if you’re looking to do it in post. I think Obsidian Projects used to work with metadata to keep cards sorted in a Kanban board, which I thought would work really well. But, I think the author changed how organizing cards worked a while ago.

A simple way to do it is to use a main note as an outline, and put in links to your real notes in the order you want. This is what I do usually. It’s not perfect, I’d like to have a way to reorder notes in a real outline, but in the mean time it works ok.

That’s exactly how I do it as well. You can then control the ordering of both your folders and files. This helps when you might want to create/generate a copy of a file as well. Its a simple system, but it did wonders for my organization of cluttered files.
