Hey guys, please can I get your views and bug reports on one of my latest projects for Obsidian on GitHub/danrhodes/AutoKeywordLinker
Automatically convert keywords into wiki-style links throughout your Obsidian vault. This plugin helps you build a richly interconnected knowledge graph by intelligently linking keywords to their target notes, creating a web of backlinks that reveals hidden connections in your notes.
Personally I would NOT want to do this across the vault. That is precisely why there are “linked mentions” and “unlinked mentions”. Not every mention of a keyword merits inclusion into a knowledge graph.
At some point in every pkm you have to process notes and blocks intelligently so that they are categorized and linked in a way that befits the note, block, and keyword. This process does take time and requires friction; the necessary friction of thought. Each of us thinks differently about our pkms.
To me, this plugin, as defined, just extends the quick dopamine rich aspect of “capture” process and doesn’t do anything to add value to topic. So, as defined, just how is a large graph going to tell you anything?
That said, if we could somehow derive context for a given keyword before willy nilly linking it, that would be cool. Maybe analyze the words in the block or section it is located to establish the “weight” of any value the keyword has. It would also be appropriate to note any properties a note has.
Typing those double brackets is a useful gesture towards establishing context and value before it can become knowledge.
Readwise jumped into the OMG discord years ago with the same promise and it just littered my vault with stuff I really did not need.
At some point, one has to slow down and really ponder words and notes so they can become knowledge.
Best wishes
