New file no longer opens in new tab

Problem

After updating to 1.2.7 when I open a new file by right clicking in the tree on a folder where I want the file to be, it creates the new file and switches to it in the current tab I have open. Previously, it would open in a new tab and I much preferred that behavior.

I tried toggling the new focus on new tab setting but that toggle does not change the behavior. I do not see any other setting that seems to control this.

This is a vanilla install with only a theme installed.

Question

Is there a way to restore this functionality such that when opening a new file, it opens in a new tab?
