New Android insider version show a blanks screen with .md in top left corner before opening to the last previously open note

I have a vault with about 2000 notes, with plugins turned on in Android it can take over 4000ms to open

In recent Android insider builds, it’s started showing a blank screen with .MD in the top left corner, before opening to the last previously opened note

This also happens in restricted mode and in the default theme, although the move to the last previously opened note is faster (a lot less than 4000ms, some of that delay is community plugins) But it’s still visible

I asked on the Discord insider channel if this was a known bug, was told it isn’t, and was advised to post here,and provide a screen recording, so I’ll do that

Please let me know if there’s anything else that’s useful I can provide. Thanks!

Steps to reproduce

I hope I've provided these above :) not sure if this is reproducible with other vaults on other android devices, I only have one to test with

Did you follow the troubleshooting guide? [Y/N]

Y

Expected result

vault to open to last previously opened note

Actual result

vault does that, but before doing so displays a blank page, with .md in the top left corner

Additional information

I tried to provide a link to a screen recording showing the .md view while the app is opening, in Google drive,but it blocked me from posting a link. The text said to provide a link to a video, so I would like to do so, if it’s helpful :slight_smile:

I also can’t post links as a reply comment here … maybe because I’m a newly registered user on the forum? I am a catalyst user on the discord channel for a while now

How can I provide a screen recording showing this behaviour please?

That’s it. You can post links in a code block for now:

```
https://help.obsidian.md
```

edit: I upped your “trust level” a notch. You should be able to post links now.

Thanks

Here’s a screen recording of the issue, it starts just after I clicked the obsidian icon on my home screen, I then closed the app and reopen it again. It does this every time I open the app now, on Android

When I have community plugins enabled which slow the startup process longer, it can hang around for a few seconds

Out of curiosity, what do you have set for Settings > Files and links > Default file to open? Might be worth changing that to something else for a test. Easy enough to change it, restart, and change it back.

Sorry about this. Think I’ve found the issue, not a bug, but a consequence of my own actions

I was under the impression that in Obsidian Settings, in Files and Links, Default File To Open, that this was set to “Last Opened", which I often use

In fact it’s set to "Specific File”, but the "File to Open” field is blank. Because I had a conflict with a synced file, and deleted the conflicted file, which was what I had Obsidian set to open

So to reproduce this, if you have a large enough vault, that startup time is slow enough for it to be visible, then on Android set Default File To Open, with a blank File To Open field, and restart Obsidian, and you’ll see this behaviour

If I set Default File to Open to Last Opened, issue goes away. Change it back to the above, the .md page appears again on startup, then appears to fail back to opening the last opened file.

Apologies, this appears to be more of a user config error than a bug.

I’ve just seen your comment after posting mine. Again, sorry for wasting people’s time :slightly_smiling_face:

No problem, glad you sorted it out.

Also, I noticed your account email in the mp4 clip you shared. Might want to take that down.
