"Narrow to heading" limits on headings

Steps to reproduce

  1. I have a LessonPlans.md file with headings for each day of class.
  2. I have a Canvas file, with a new column for each day of class.
  3. In the Canvas file, I “add note from vault” and then “Narrow to heading”
  4. There appears to be a limit on how many headings can be pulled, perhaps only 99. If I delete earlier headings I can see the later ones.
  5. But if I delete earlier headings, than those “Narrow to heading” boxes from earlier in the year are broken on the Canvas.
  6. I need the limit on how many headings can be pulled to be removed.

Did you follow the troubleshooting guide? [Y]

Yes, for testing purposes I created a brand new vault, left it in restricted mode, no snippets and default theme. I created a new Canvas and could repeat not being able to see all the headings in the note.

Expected result

I expect to see ANY and ALL headings in my note.

Actual result

Again, I am limited to number of headings to choose from. it appears to only show/offer me the first 99.

Additional information

Thanks for your help! This is really a big deal for my teaching workflow.

This is not a bug. The popup windows that help you write links or headings are suggestion lists that refine as you type. They are not meant to display an exhaustive list of all the possible options (that would be too computationally intensive).

So given that reply, I wonder if it would help if you used some kind of a naming convention in your headings? So for example, each heading could start with a code or name of the class, so you could easily narrow down the suggestions into a predictable group.
