My work is missing - no vault

Hi guys,

I was working on a paper and today when I opened my desktop app, there was no vault. Could not find my work on the computer files either.

Please, help.

Hi there, we’ll need more information to help you.

The two important things to answer are #1 and #2:

  1. What OS are you using?
  2. Where did you store your vault?
    • Accidental syncing: Was it in a folder that syncs with your OS’s built-in cloud tools? OneDrive for Windows, or iCloud for MacOS?
    • Were you purposefully syncing with any tools like iCloud, Dropbox, Google Drive, or similar?
  3. Did you not have any backups? If not, please make sure you start keeping backups from now on. Especially for important work.

If it was in iCloud or OneDrive or similar, you need to make sure those apps are set to not attempt to upload your documents to the cloud-only. Obsidian needs them to stay local on your computer.
