Consolidating into a single “hotkey” thread is a good idea. I was thinking of doing the same thing! I was wondering though if it makes things easier, or, harder for the mods, from a request tracking perspective (
I have a few more hotkey request:
Shortcut to open the File Explorer
Shortcut to navigate to link under cursor in new window when in edit mode
Shortcut to open preview in a new linked window
There’s probably more, these come to mind as immediate frustrations (for me
). I like to stay on home row
I just created feature requests for current date/time and hotkeys for confirmation modals.
@lizardmenfromspace Could you add to replace the two star/unstar hotkeys to one toggle hotkey?
@sam.baron not sure which ones you are referring to. In the feature requests home page you can highlight a topic post, ctrl-copy, then ctrl-paste in here and it will paste it as a link. Thanks!
Unless you just wanted added to the list without a link to its own page
@lizardmenfromspace I was referring to updating your original post since I thought you were aggregating hotkey requests, but nevermind, the star/unstar hotkey was updated in the last release.
I’d like to have a global hotkey within Windows so that I can create a note or search for a note using a hotkey from any application. For example, with my Evernote-client I do Win+N to automatically create a new Evernote-note with any application in focus.
Global system-wide hotkeys for creating and searching Obsidian will help me to really make it my second brain.
There are already two other posts on this:
@lizardmenfromspace, should I post my suggestion here or create a new post about it and link to this post.
I really think that is a great ideia to aggregate all hotkeys in one place.
Create your own post then paste a link to said post as a comment to this one.
This my post about a switching Panels:
My suggestion is about switching panels.
My workflow in Obsidian is to create smart notes from content that I’m reading: Panel 1 has my notes and Panel 2 has the content that I’m reading.
Many times, I just have to highlight and copy the content on Panel 2 to Panel 1 to make a little editing.
To do this action I have to use te mouse to switch between the panels. My suggestion is to include a keyboard shortcut to this action.
I hope you find this useful and easy to implement. When…
Hotkey for turning Pin on/off:
Title says it all
would be great to be able to toggle editor pane Pinning on/off via a keyboard shortcut.
Hotkey for navigating notes:
It would be great to have a hot key for navigating files in a folder.
I often go through files in a folder, for example they are all notes for an article I’m writing or because I want to check and add tags to improve my notes.
The hot key for navigating the last notes does not help me here.
It would be similar to this feature, but for all files in a folder:
(select text and hit shortcut to apply text styling)
bold (CMD + B)
italic (CMD + I)
url (CMD + K)
==highlight== ( no shortcut )
>code ( no shortcut )
$math$ ( no shortcut )
Would it be possible to get keyboard commands for the missing ones? Or is there a way to write new macros? CMD + SHIFT + H for highlight or something?
Typora has cmd-K for link, option-` for code, option-command-C for code block and command-option-B for math block (Mac).
I really need this keyboard shortcuts too. Mainly for ==highlight==
It should be implemented as VSCode way cmd+1, cmd+2 etc.
i would love to be able to jump to the previous day’s note and the next days note from any given days note
Another styling/formatting shortcut:
convert selection to ordered and unordered list
