I pasted into obsidian vault a folder from the previously removed vault, then removed .obisidian - configuration folder from it (so it wouldn’t interefere with the current vault). Now in my vault there is 1 .obsidian and two folders: pasted_folder_notes and regular_folder from this initialization. The problem is that the images I paste are available only in regular_folder and only if I paste them within regular_folder. I tried pasting into the vault (parent dir) and into the other folder called pasted_folder_notes . in pasted_folder_notes they are not available even if I put them within, analogically. The files, canvases are recognized normally.
TLDR: So I make a canvas and want to put an image there. Unless I put it in specific folder they are not recognized (in another folder and in parent directory - the vault)
What I tried
I chated with AI and looked up the setting:
“Open Obisidian.
Click on the menu icon (…) at the top right of the screen.
Click on “Preferences.”
In the “Advanced” section, you will find the “Media Folder” setting.”
There is no such setting. All preferences are default. I just installed the app (desktop, Windows 11, v.1.8.7).
Can you maybe show a screenshot of this structure? Preferably with hidden folders shown.
Which .obsidian did you delete? Which folder do you have open as your vault?
In your settings, what is your setting for Files and Links → Default location for new attachments?
Just to double check, when you say “pasting images” are you pasting from inside Obsidian? You’re talking about pasting things into folders… Are you talking about pasting in your file explorer in your OS?
parent dir <-- this is your vault? Is your .obsidian folder under this folder?
regular_folder
pasted_folder
Another, new issue on the screen below. Which hopefully will clear the picture. Thank You for trying to follow me here.
Look. After I changed the setting about where to store medias, from Vault to chosen folder “media”, the picture ‘books.jpg’ which was in team_notes stopped showing up. But the newly downloaded picture ‘dywan2.jpg’ is being detected within the folder. As well as ‘dywan.jpg’ put in the “media” folder. I see Obisidian also doesn’t detect pictures in .jfif format.
so, the previous problem was that the folder my_notes doesn’t detect pictures. (aws_meme) ahhhh, ok! it’s because it’s in .jfif format. if I download a jpg it is detected.
and why the heck now, that I’ve set it to discover pictures within the folder, does it lists ‘dywan2.jkpg’ which is in the other folder, not in my_notes?
is there a plan to include .jfif? if so, when? you download something from web, you don’t look at the format, rather what the picture shows. you choose to save it in “jpeg” and it comes as ‘jfif.’ anyway.
also, would be good to enable Ctrl standard Windows functionality when selecting items on the list to drag and drop. Only Shift works here to grab a range. I’d like to use Ctrl to deselect one of the items.
Which part? Can you please summarize? Is it the .jfif part of the question? Did you solve the rest of the main question? I can’t really tell what’s going on in your screenshots, sorry.
