Longform plugin and Scrivenings / Manual sorting plugin to sync in File Explorer

Because Longform plugin uses a different way to rearrange files than File Explorer its difficult to sync them together. Manual sorting plugin lets you drag files and folders nicely but its not coordinated with Longform pane arrangement of files. I would like ability to use Manual sorting plugin or a similar plugin that would be able to drag files/folders to rearrange them without complex re-numbeting between Longform projects and File Explorer. I find myself needing to rename and rearranging files/folders often. Syncing these two plugins would greatly help productivity.

Longform plugin’s pane allows one to rearrange folders/files by dragging. This doesn’t sync with the File Explorer unless one goes through much effort.

It would be very helpful if one could visually see a synced arrangement of files abd folders in a Scrivenings mode similar to Scrivener.

My experience with the Continuous mode plugin is that it relies in the File Explorer’s index not the frontmater of Longform. I’d like to recommend a Scrivenings mode for the Longform plugin. Possibly the Continuous mode plugin could address this feature?

The Plugins ideas category is for ideas for new plugins. To request a feature for an existing plugin, post an issue on its GitHub (linked near the top of the plugin’s description). I’ll move this post to Help so people can still give advice if they have any. Thanks, and good luck! (Edit: later found you’d already posted in Help, so I e merged them.)

I have not used Continuous Mode plugin. I always begin my Longform scenes with a number so that they sort properly in other views/browsers.

01 for the first scene
02 etc.
03 etc.
03b if I split/insert a new file
04 and so on

This also ensures that if a longform index is ever corrupted, I will not lose my sort order, which could be quite complex.

I discovered how to use Continuous Mode plugin to avoid having to number scenes.

  • With Continuous mode enabled I right click the Longform pane icon in the left sidebar and select “move to a new window”.

  • (Optional: Drag-drop scenes to arrange them in any sequence.)

  • Click the first scene in the pane.

  • Right click the tab of the first scene and select Continuous Mode > Toggle Continuous Mode

  • Click each scene in sequence from top to bottom. This creates a scrivenings mode.

  • Scroll down the Longform pane. All the scenes are in sequence from top to bottom as you selected them.

  • I use Manual sorting plugin to drag-n-drop notes in the File Explorer to match the same order as shown in Longform pane.
