(Linux Ubuntu) Opening a file dialog freezes the vault creation window

Steps to reproduce

I am running Ubuntu 24.04, Obsidian version 1.8.10 (reports as up-to-date on my machine at time of posting), installed via App Store on Ubuntu.

Open Obsidian. Click on the “create a new vault” or “open folder as vault” buttons, then click the button to select where to do so. Click “select” on the file explorer dialog to close it.

Did you follow the troubleshooting guide? [Y/N]

Yes; the bug affects the base Obsidian vault selection window, not the vaults themselves.

Expected result

The app continues to function as expected.

Actual result

The window freezes. It does not crash, but nothing is clickable. The freeze occurs immediately after the file dialog closes, preventing the creation of a vault or opening new vaults.

Additional information

I tested different file paths. Both file paths on the same partition and one on other partitions caused it (so it is likely an issue with the file dialog returning a bad value?). I am using nemo as my file manager. If I use the Obsidian Sync feature and don’t mess with the location it creates the vault at, it does generate a vault.

Not a dev, so probably can’t help, but it might be important to note what kind of installation that is. I use Linux Mint which is very similar to Ubuntu and quite often the app store offers Flatpaks or system packages. Ubuntu might also offer Snaps. Maybe that would be helpful. Plus in the mean time while you wait for someone to help if the app store offers other ways as well you could try one of those.

I haven’t been able to reproduce this.
