I am on v0.8.9 having migrated from Roam. But whenever I type, no matter whether I hit enter or tab, it stays as code and doesn’t render into math. Can someone please explain what is going on? Sorry if the question is stupid.

It’s normal because you are in edit mode. To switch to preview mode, please press the first (from left) button in the top right corner.
A WYSIWYM (Typora-like) editing mode is in the road map.
