What I’m trying to do
his problem occurs within the pandoc reference list plugin (version 2.0.25). Inline citations that use the double‑bracket citekey form (normally written as [[@citekey]]) become invisible in the note body whenever I edit a note other than the one currently open/active. The citation vanishes entirely — not a styling/color issue, it isn’t painted at all. It reappears as soon as I select the surrounding text or place my cursor within it.
Plain inline citations written as @citekey (without brackets) are not affected — the issue is specific to the double‑bracket link form. The sidebar reference list continues to display correctly.
Things I have tried
This happens with both the default Obsidian theme and the Golden Topaz community theme, so it doesn’t appear to be theme/CSS-related. It looks like a JS error in the interaction between the plugin’s citation decoration and Obsidian’s link rendering.
Workarounds found so far:
-
Selecting/clicking into the affected citation forces a re-render.
-
Disabling the plugin’s “render citations in internal links” setting avoids the issue entirely (but removes inline rendering for the double‑bracket citation form).
-
Using bare
@citekeyinstead of the double‑bracket form also avoids it (but loses backlinks/graph view benefits).
