I built a plugin that tracks your focus time in Obsidian — no timers, just automatic insights.

I wanted a way to see how much time I was actually spending writing my notes or reading PDFs inside Obsidian, so I built a plugin for it.

It’s called Focus Time. It automatically logs the time you’re active on each file in the background. No timers to press, it just works.

The main feature is the Dashboard, which shows you all your data with charts and stats. Here’s what it does:

  • See Your Habits: Get a breakdown of your focus time by day, month, year, or all-time.
  • Drill-Down Charts: The charts are interactive. You can click a year to see the months, then click a month to see the days.
  • Find Your Top Notes: It includes a “Leaderboard” that ranks the notes you’ve spent the most time in. It’s been super interesting to see which ideas I’m really invested in.
  • Mobile Friendly: The dashboard works great on the phone too.

I just released it and would love to get some feedback. If you want to see your own stats, you can find it by searching for “Focus Time” in the community plugins.

By the way, the plugin is completely open-source — here’s the GitHub link: https://github.com/astradev123/obsidian-focus-time
