How to open an empty pane?

What I’m trying to do

In order to design the workspace for specific task, I’d like to create some empty panes and arrange them on the screen.

I do see those empty pane sometime, but I don’t figure out how to create one.

I can open a note in a new pane, but I don’t see a command that I can open a new empty pane?

Is this possible?

Find a workaround:

  1. create a new note and open it in a pane
  2. delete this new note file
  3. the pane will be left “empty”
