How to link a local file in Obsidian?

If the file is located outside the vault, [YourDoc](<.../.../dir/YourDoc.pdf>) will not work, not as well as previewing.

[YourDoc](<file:///C:/dir/YourDoc.pdf>) works as hyperlink, but not being able to preview.
