How to highlight the equals symbol

What I’m trying to do

I’m trying to highlight a single instance of the = symbol in the middle of a line.

Things I have tried

I have tried =====, but this is not recognized as a highlight.

I have tried =====, which works if this is the last character on the line, but does not work in the middle of a line (in which case it changes it = highlighted.

Does this work?

This ==\=== that

Apologies Hampton, that should have been what my second attempt said but I didn’t realise the backslash character had been removed when I posted it.

So no, your suggestion gives

This \= that

where the backslash and equals are highlighted.

No worries at all. For me, using the default theme, I get a highlighted equals sign in live preview, but a highlighted backslash in reading mode. Something not right there, it seems.

Logically, it should work, I think. Hope someone from the team can help with this.
