How to get table to show select tasks from each note?

What I’m trying to do

Create a table of all my ongoing projects, where the first column is the project (each project has its own note), and another column is “next”. In the “next” column, I want it to show the actionable task(s) for that project. The project notes also contain un-actionable tasks, which I do not want to show up in the table.

Things I have tried

Currently I have

TABLE WITHOUT ID as "Project",
file.tasks.text as "next"
FROM #project

Which is nice, but:

  • it shows ALL the tasks, not just the actionable tasks
  • it shows finished tasks (with no indication they’ve been done)

It seems like I should be able to tag the tasks that are actionable, or maybe put them under a header? But I haven’t been able to figure out how to narrow down what goes in that “next” column past file.tasks.text. Any suggestions?

When not working with a TASK query, you need to do something like FLATTEN file.tasks as task to work with each task on its own.

How do you define a task to be actionable? Using tags? Using text?

In either case here is a query to help you get going:

  task.text as Next
FROM #project
FLATTEN file.tasks as task
WHERE !task.completed
  AND econtains(task.tags, "#next")
