How many notes do you have?

I have 39.509 notes in my vault and only around 100 attachments (mostly images). The whole vault takes up 72 mb. About 80% of my notes are below 1 kb in size, ie. less than 1000 characters or 150 words. As writing is an important part of my learning process, I copy/paste very little and write most by hand.

My first notes I wrote in early 2022. Hence, I write about 8000 notes/year or about 150 notes/week. My experience is that my notes get smaller in size as the years go by. I link more and I make more notes.

This little piece of code $=dv.pages().lengthshould give you the number of notes in your vault.

Or with datacore:

```datacorejsx
return function View() {
    const pages = dc.useQuery("@page").length;
    return <p>There is {pages} notes in the vault.</p>;
}
```

How does Obsidian handle your >35k note vault? I often question creating new files and sometimes aggregate, even when using small files is my preference. I expect to approach 20k files at some point. But not now. Only about 3k today.

It handles the vault relatively well or in any case good enough that it’s worth the benefit of having lots of notes for me. On my phone, loading Obsidian initially can take some time. I’ve also noted searching getting more difficult very recently - specifically, I need to type in the key words of the title of the note in the right order (so “Shoe Leather” won’t give me “Brown Leather Shoe” as it did before, but “Leather Shoe” will).
