How do I use wildcards in my documents?

Things I have tried

New to Obsidian. I tried searching https://help.obsidian.md and this forum with ‘using wildcards’, ‘wildcards’ and ‘wildcard character’ but couldn’t find anything relevant to my issue.

What I’m trying to do

How do I use the wildcard character (*) in my documents. Whenever I try typing *, Obsidian seems to assume I’m asking for formatting and included ** and turns the following text to bold.
Is there any was to escape a character and make * appear as standard text and not as a formatting option?

Hi @edw515 , thanks for posting!

Yes, in Markdown you can escape any character by putting a backslash \ behind it. So typing a \* will cause the asterisk to appear normally. For example:
