What I’m trying to do

Trying to use a community plugin and I’m such a newb I can’t make it work. Is this the place to ask about it, or should I go directly to creator?

I’m trying to use the plugin, “Folder by tags distributor”.

I don’t understand how to actually trigger the move from the options offered.

The creator’s Github discussion forum isn’t very active.

Hi, I renamed your topic so people know what you’re asking for help with.

I haven’t tried the plugin, but I see the documentation.

First of all, since this plugin moves content around, I highly recommend you make a safe backup copy of your vault! Just in case.

  1. Make sure that you’ve already created the appropriate folders. It says it doesn’t make the folders for you.
  2. When it says “Run Redistribute all notes to folder by tags command.” you can do that in one of two ways:
    • Type Ctrl-P to bring up the command palette. From there, start typing “redist” and you should see the command appear in the list of suggestions. The command palette lets you run any command in Obsidian.
    • You can go to Settings → Hotkeys and assign a hotkey to ‘Run Redistribute all notes to folder by tags’. Then you can run it by using that hotkey. Since this is moving content around, I would suggest choosing a hotkey that isn’t easy to hit accidentally.
  3. It also says you can click a button on the left panel. I’ve never tried the plugin, so I can’t help with that. You’d have to make sure that the left panel is visible.

If none of that helps, can you try to describe where you are stuck?
