Focus (Hoist) a folder in the vault

I would like a feature that is like Lightrooms Solo-Mode for the file-explorer, when I open a folder the others are collapsed. I have many folders… Like Personal, Code, Journal and so on.

Use case or problem

hard to search folder name, only can open the specific note when giving folder name. However, I want to focus and open the folder with list of all subfolders or notes.

search folder, then open folder with focus folder mode automatically. when creating new note and in focus mode, the new note will be created in focused folder instead of root folder

Proposed solution

Similar like vscode, where you open the folder you want to work with.

Use case or problem

The purpose of this feature request is to keep focus while working in Obsidian and cut down on the clutter. This is a major issue for staying organized and focused and creative while using Obsidian.

Seeing a bunch of unrelated folders in my sidebar makes it difficult to focus and be creative. Keeping things in different vaults, however, gets cluttered and messy when I switch between vaults and am left with different open vault browsers.

Proposed solution

There are two strategies that could be used to do this:

  1. When a user opens a new vault; have that vault appear in the current open browser window - rather than creating another window. It would replace the existing vault in that browser window. So, switching between vaults would be like switching between user spaces.
  • OR -
  1. Implement a root folder structure that is like the “projects” pane in the Ulysses app. In other words, when you click on a folder at the root level, all other folders disappear, and you are now looking at only the sub-folders in the root folder. (In Ulysses, these root folders are called “projects”).

I think it would be good for each root folder in an Obsidian app to be a project.

When you click on a “project” or “root folder” the project becomes the root folder visually. Then, there would be an arrow that you click on to get back out to see all of the other “projects” or “root folders”

Current workaround (optional)

I have tried different “focus” plugins; but they don’t work properly. My work around has been to try to use multiple vaults – but it’s too messy.

I tried this plugin, and it wasn’t functional unfortunately.
