External-links with non-ASCII names do not work (Chinese, Cyrillic, etc)

Steps to reproduce

  1. Write a link to a external file with a Chinese name in the note.
    [Name](file:///C:/Users/bqw/Desktop/名字.xlsx)
  2. Click the link in preview mode

Expected result

The file will be opened with default application.

Actual result

Nothing happens.

Environment

  • Operating system: Windows 10

  • Obsidian version: 0.7.3

  • Using custom CSS: No

Additional information

It also happens when the path has a Chinese character.

Here is the same problem

Not sure if we can do something about it, but we will look into it at some point.

This makes Obsidian largely useless to me :frowning:

I am not sure if this a limitation of electron or if there is something that we can do about it. We’ll look into it.

Ready to help with testing different alternatives, if necessary.
At the same time, links to pdf work perfectly. If I have a яя.pdf document, then when using links like ![[яя.pdf]] is not a problem

@Vadych we use a completely different mechanism for internal links.

For me implementing this proposal would solve the problem
