Hi - I use the mailing list mode and it’s been nice to get notification of activity here via e-mail. However, it’s missing one critical feature: reply via e-mail.

I’m not sure if this is a switch to flip or a module, plugin, etc., to install and configure.
In any event, the mods here can’t take care of it.

What I don’t know is if it’s desirable to enable this on a large forum. Maybe it’s fine. Does it make spam automation easier for bots? Things to consider first.
Intuition says it will add no more or less to the current level of spam. It’s an opt-in feature and needs a verified e-mail to fully work.
It’s enabled on quite a few larger and smaller discourse instances (self hosted and managed), and haven’t seen any increase in spam. Nor have these moderators raises issues about mailing list mode and reply via email.
If there’s concern for spam, I would say it needs to be enabled first. Then you can make a decision after you gather the data (ie, levels of spam per origin).
