Embedding with note alias does not appear in preview

Steps to reproduce

Tried to embed markdown file by adding ! before a piped link.

![[020 Investigate | Conduct Research]]

Expected result

Obsidian should recognize 020 Investigate as the page and embed it.

Actual result

Obsidian does not recognize 020 Investigate and does not embed it.

Environment

  • Operating system: macOS 10.15.5
  • Obsidian version: 0.8.0

Additional information

Why use the alias if you’re embedding?

Not sure if it’s the same reason as the OP but this has happened to me as well.

Not because I wanted to add an alias to an embedded note but because I had a link to a note that already had an alias and only after I wanted to make it embedded and had to remove the alias for it to work.

Good question. The need is totally irrational. But my user experience definitely “felt” broken when I encountered the error.

My file had a dozen or so piped links which I wanted to change to embeds. My instinct was to multi-cursor insert a bang before each. When that didn’t work I had to think about the software for a second, not the content.
